　　國王不想這樣一天天地等著女兒長大，就把太醫叫來，命令他說：“快給小公主開些藥吃，讓她立刻就長大。你身為全國最好的醫生，如果辦不到的話，就說明你根本名不副實，我就殺你的頭!”

　　太醫是個聰明的人，他不慌不忙地思考了一會，就開口說道：

　　“陛下，您儘管放心好了，我知道有一種藥吃了以後可以立刻長大。但是，這種藥生長在人跡罕至的地方，10年才開一次花，要弄到它談何容易?請您給我一些時間，我保證帶藥回來見您。不過，在我去找藥期間，您不能見小公主，不然藥就不靈了。”

　　國王同意了。於是醫生就出發了，不過他並沒有去找藥，而是找了個地方隱居了起來。

　　一直過了12年，醫生才回到京城，他稟報國王說：“我終於找到藥了。”國王大喜，讓他趕快把藥給小公主服下。醫生很快帶著公主過來了，國王一看，公主真的長大了，高興極了，誇獎道：“太醫的醫術果然是舉世無雙啊!”還叫左右賞賜給太醫許多珍寶。

　　世上哪有能夠使人立刻長大的藥呢，小公主也是隨著時光的流逝自然地長大的，而不是因為服了什麼靈丹妙藥。自然規律是不可違背的客觀存在，如果硬要去改造它，不但不能成功，還有可能受人愚弄。

　　雄孔雀有著美麗的長尾羽，這本來是一件值得驕傲的事。但它卻對自己的這一優長之處珍愛得太過分了，其結果是反而招致了禍患。雄孔雀的下場警示人們：如果有誰對自己缺乏自知之明，將某個長處當包袱背起來，為其所累，這時好事就有可能變成壞事，引出本來不該發生的後果。
