　　Ladies and gentlemen,

　　I have had a lot of teachers in my school who have given me much help in my study. For their help I will never forget them. But today I am going to talk about a special teacher of mine. This teacher is not a human being and its name is“Computer”. It has been teaching me a lot of knowledge and I appreciate it very much.

　　With the development of modern science and technology, computers are widely used in every teritories [every field]1 including education. How can a computer be my teacher? How does a computer teach me? Multimedia多媒體helps a lot in this aspect in recent years, and computer-based training CBT has become a popular educational medium 手段. Even before the multimedia come [came]2 up, many different learning systems appeared, using the components and techniques we now associate with the term “multimedia”. Multimedia components, such as graphics 動畫 , animations , sound and video, make the learning process easier through visualization. Animations can present many complex subjects dynamically, but human teachers can not do this on blackboards. Multimedia makes our study more lively and interesting. For example, a CD-ROM disk named “Encarta Encyclopedia” contains 650 MB information including images, graphics, music clips, video clips, animations , texts, hotwords, and database search functions. Fields involved includes physical sciences, performance arts, social sciences, politics, military, education and so on. When pressing a button, I can hear American President Clinton's speech clip. I may enjoy playing all kinds of musical instruments in the world. I can also see the animation of many physical phenomena. This makes physical concept to be understood deeply [ concepts understood better]3. The audio features of multimedia can greatly help me learning [learn] 4 foreign languages. With its speech output capabilities, I'm no longer dependent on an instructor for proper pronunciation.

　　How can I interact with a computer? There are many ways, including keyboard, mouse pointer, and touch screen. I often use a keyboard. When I press right keys, I can see and hear whatever I want. Information world is at my fingertip. I wish that true speech input-output system would be invented one day.

　　As teachers, computers have a lot of virtues： They are positive, they have good memories and never lose any information stored in them. They have much knowledge in every field. They can let out all kinds of sounds, and can also improve the efficiency of our study. For example, if I want to, I can skip some chapters so that I can study at my own pace.

　　Although computers will never take the place of human teachers, they are welcomed by more and more learners. Computers will continue to evolve發展with the aid of modern technologies. Computers are so powerful, helpful and important that everybody needs it, especially in the future! I love my computer teacher!

　　I’m glad to be here to share with you my definition of success.

　　When we mentioned the success， the usual worldly criteria are wealth， fame， high social status and something other like that. In reality， we can’t deny t these things in some way. But personally， I believe that success is the realization of people’ hopes and wishes. And to live with a high ideal is a successful life. It is not what one does， but what one tries to do， that make a man strong. So I believe that success is ninety-nine percent mental attitude， it calls for lots of positive quality: effort， love， diligence， efficiency and so on. I think the successful life always have these characters. If a person inherits his family’s millions and leads an easy life， he is not a successful person in material terms， it just can be said that he has the smooth way of life， he is lucky in some way， but that is not the success .Unceasing effort is the price of success. No matter what is the result， we always can get more from the process.

　　What we should do is that insisting on our goals or dreams and always encourage ourselves to challenge more， to hold the opportunities， never give up. It sounds like simple， but it is really hard to do. Also the key points of the success.

　　Relatively speaking， in our daily life， success would be rather simple. For me， I’m standing here to take part in the speech competition is somehow also success. As I’m a easy to suffer from stage fright， I choose to hold this chance， my goal is my own character training——to be more confident， to have more courage to front such situation， I really do it， I have truly gained by participating， I’m success.

　　What is success? I’m sure that everyone has his own interpretation as I do. In the inspiring words of Philips Brooks:“ Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers ，pray for powers equal to your tasks， then the doing of your work shall be no miracle， but you shall be the miracle.” So believe in our hopes ，believe in ourselves. Every one can create the success.

　　Hi everyone,

　　My name is Dongqi Yang from china, I am horror to be here today and I am very happy to receive this award.

　　As you can imagine, as international students in Australia, the biggest challenge is English,

　　I remembered that when I come here first time, there is a party in the house of my home stay. During the time, they played jokes and they laughed all the time, do you know how embarrassed that is, everyone laughed except you. So I pretend to understand the joke in another party, I saw everyone laugh and I laugh too in 5 seconds later. My home stay was surprised about that and asked me “do you understand?”， and I answered “no”， “So why do you laugh?” ”because I do not want to be embarrassed”!

　　But as I receive this award today, I want to thank to them, because they encourage me to be involved with the committee rather than staying in at home, play computer and speak Chinese.

　　When I came to Wantirna College first time, I met liz collar who is international student coordinator. She is very kind to me, and she encourage me join SRC, I went to SRC meetings regularly all the time, but I didn’t even know what SRC was! That is the reason why I told her, I don’t want to go to SRC anymore. But she said “why not? You should go and you have to go!”I asked” why?” she said:” because I said so!”

　　But as ii receive this award today, I want to thank her. She helps me a lot.

　　Truth be told, I am not the best student in Wantirna College, but I appreciate this award and I will try my best in future.

　　I think I got 10 seconds left, I want to thank to Les and Vera who is my lovely home stay, thanks to Liz collar who is international student coordinator, I strongly want to thank to my mother, because she support me and gave me the opportunity to come to Australia. And thanks to Wantinran College, thanks to Australia and finally, thanks to everyone to be here tonight.

　　I have a dream

　　Every one has his own dream.When I was a little kid ,my dream was even to have a candy shop of my own .But now ,when I am 16 years old ,standing here ,my dreams have already changed a lot.

　　I have got quite different experience from other girls.While they were playing toys at home,while they were dreaming to be the princesses in the story .I was running in the hard rain,jumping in the heavy snow,pitching in the strong wind.Nothing could stop me ,because of a wonderful call from my heart -- to be an athlete.Yeah ,of course ,I'm an athlete,I'm so proud of that all the time .

　　When I was 10 years old ,I became a shot-put athlete.The training was really hard ,I couldn't bear the heavy shot in my hands .But I always believe that "god only help those who help themselves".During those hard days,I find I was growing more quickly than others of the same age.To be an athlete is my most correct choice.But,I quit my team after entering high school because of a silly excuse.I really didn't want to stop my sports career anyway.

　　Today I say to you my friends that even though I must face the difficulties of yesterday ,today and tomorrow .I still have a dream .It is a dream deeply rooted in my soul.

　　I have a dream that one day ,I can run,jump and pitch just like I used to be.

　　I have a dream that one day , I can go back to my dream sports and join the national team.

　　I have a dream that one day ,I can stand on the highest place at the olympic games.With all the cameras pointing at me.I will tell everyone that I'm so proud to be a Chinese athlete!
