升：shēngㄕㄥˉ。用鬥挹起了酒漿的過程為升之正規化。本義：由低往高移動（的獲取）。如：蒲松齡《促織》：“一人飛昇，仙及雞犬。”。《詩經·小雅·天保》：“如月之恆，如日之升。”（此意古時用升加日“昇”來表達，今簡化迴歸“升”）。 衍義：等級、層次以及地位的提高。如：白居易《祭盧虔文》：“名因文著，位以才升。”。又如：升官、升職、升級。 因升來自提酒之形，取酒為容器。故升又衍義為容量單位。如：《說文解字》：“升，十合也。從鬥，亦象形。”。今“升”為公制容量的主單位，符號為L。1升等於1000毫升。跟立方分米對應。
