紫水晶（Amethyst），源自希臘文，意思是“不易破碎”，化學組成 SiO2。 紫水晶，三方晶系，晶體呈六方柱狀，柱面具橫紋，有左形和右形，雙晶很普遍。硬度7。晶體內常含不規則或羽翅狀氣液兩相包體。因為晶格中部分Si4+被Fe3+取代，並在輻照的影響下形成[FeO4]色心而使晶體呈現紫色 。透明，在二色鏡下觀察具有明顯的多色性。 紫水晶多被用於寶石飾品，如紫水晶蛇形吊墜。
