烘乾機可分為工業與民用兩種，工業烘乾機也叫乾燥裝置或乾燥機，民用烘乾機是洗滌機械中的一種，一般在水洗脫水之後，用來除去服裝和其他紡織品中的水分。 烘乾機有帶式烘乾，滾筒烘乾，箱式烘乾，塔式烘乾等幾種模式；熱源有煤，電，氣等；物料在烘乾過程中有熱風氣流式和輻射式等，熱風滾筒烘乾是熱氣流從尾部向前運動，與物料充分接觸，透過熱傳導、對流、輻射傳熱量充分利用；將熱能直接傳遞給物料，使物料的水分在筒體內不斷被蒸發，入料口的引風裝置將大量的水分、溼氣流抽出，防止粉塵外排造成的二次汙染；透過內螺旋攪拌、掃散、抄板，推進物料運動，完成整個烘乾過程；逆流傳導脫溼，避免減少重複烘乾程式。
