推理小說是以推理方式解開故事謎題（大多數是找出殺人兇手）的一種小說，通常故事都含有兇殺案與偵探，亦有部分並非以兇殺為主要劇情走向，諸如找尋失物或解開奇異事件的謎底等。偵探小說的一種，不過揭開謎底的並不總是偵探。
