英語翻譯中直譯的誤區分析

　　翻譯是把用一種語言表達的資訊準確通暢地轉換成另一種語言的活動或行為。直譯作為一種重要的翻譯方法,在實際應用中有自己獨特的特徵,當然也有其美中不足之處。由於英漢民族文化的差異,這兩個民族也有其獨特的語言表達方式。由此,在翻譯過程中,如果缺失對原作文化背景等知識的瞭解,一味地採用直譯的翻譯方法,就容易出現誤譯或錯譯。本文主要討論了直譯的誤區並提出了相應的處理方法。

　　一、長句直譯的誤區

　　在較長的英語句子中存在著比較複雜的關係，很難按原則順序用一句漢語表達出來，這就要根據英文句子的特點和內在聯絡進行意譯，不能直譯的長句主要有三種處理方法。

　　1. 根據句子內在的邏輯關係和漢語的表達習慣進行翻譯。例如：

　　There are advantages to underground life， too， and something to be said for imaging whole cities， even mankind generally， moving downward， of having the outermost mile of the Earth's crust honeycombed with passage and strue-ture， like a gigantic ant hill.這是一個倒裝句，表示設想條件與結果關係，按這一關係來譯比直譯好，家似的建築物，一座座城市都遷入地下，甚至全人類都遷入地下生活，這也會給人類帶來很多好處。

　　The chances are that the dwellers of the new caves would see more greenery， under ecologically healthier conditions， than dwellers of surface cities do today.這個句子並不複雜，但不好譯。這個句子有三層關係，比較、條件和結果，按這種邏輯關係翻譯就十分省事。

　　“同今天地面城市裡的居民相比，新洞穴裡的居民如果在比較健康的生態環境中生活，會有更多的機會見到青枝綠葉。”

　　2、有些長句需要直譯與意譯結合，順譯與遞譯結合，需要綜合處理。

　　But a broader and more generous， certainly more philosophical， view is held by those scientists who claim .that the evidence of a war instinct in men is incomplete and misleading， and that man does have within him the power of abolishing war.這個句子的主句部分可以意譯，從句部分可直譯。

　　有些科學家的觀點更開闊，更富有普遍性和哲理性。他們指出，有關人類戰爭本能的證據尚不完全，而且容易引起誤解，事實上，人類自身具有消除戰爭的能力。

　　It was that population that gave to California a name for getting up astonishing enterprises and rushing them through with a magnificent dash and daring and a recklessness of cost or consequences ， which she bears unto this day .這個句子雖長，結構不復雜，如果進行直譯，其譯文將十分遜色，如果進行綜合處理，譯文將有聲有色地傳達原文的神韻。“那裡的人們富於大無畏的開創精神，建立龐大的企業，敢冒風險，勢如破竹，一干到底，不顧及成本，因此為加利福尼亞贏得了聲譽。

　　3、由於有些句型不同於漢語的思維方式，常常需要進行倒譯。

　　Textile finishes have in general become a “no-no” in today's market place ，thanks to many reasons ，says a represen tative of fiber producer.一位纖維廠家代表說，由於許多原因，紡織物整理劑在今天的市場上已經到無人的問津的地步。

　　How much easier， how much more satisfying it is for you who can see to grasp quickly the essential qualities of another person by watching the subtleties of expression， the quiver of a muscle， the flutter of a hand.比較起來，你們這些有視覺的人，通過觀察表情的微妙變化，肌肉的顫動和手勢來迅速把握別人的基本品質，則是何等容易，保等滿意啊!

　　二、否定句型中的直譯誤區

　　英語中有一些不同的否定句型，其中有一些句型不能完全採用直譯法進行翻譯，否則，就會造成誤譯，甚至與原意背道而馳，下列幾種否定句型值得注意：

　　1. 部分否定句型，這種句型不同於漢語的思維形式。

　　I do not know all of them.誤：對他們我都不認識。

　　正：對他們我不是個個都認識。

　　All the answers are not right.誤：所有答案都不對。
