　　One’S-SelF I sing—a simple, separate Person;

　　Yet utter the word Democratic, the word En-masse.

　　Of Physiology from top to toe I sing;

　　Not physiognomy alone, nor brain alone, is worthy for the muse—I say the

　　Form complete is worthier far;

　　The Female equally with the male I sing.

　　Of Life immense in passion, pulse, and power,

　　Cheerful—for freest action form’d, under the laws divine,

　　The Modern Man I sing.

　　我歌唱一個人的自身、一個單一的個別的人、

　　不過要用民主的這個詞、全體這個詞的聲音。

　　我歌唱從頭到腳的生理學，

　　我說不單隻外貌和腦子，整個形體更值得歌吟，

　　而且，與男性平等，我也歌唱女性。

　　我歌唱現代的人，

　　那情感、意向和能力上的巨大生命，

　　他愉快、能採取合乎神聖法則的最自由的行動。

　　Our share of night to bear --
