　　英語拼寫很多情況下與讀音不相吻合——多個字母或字母組合發同一個音，同一個字母組合可以發多個音。如字母A可以發多達八個音;TH組合發三個音如其中Thailand、Thyme、Thames等單詞發不規則的/t/音;ough字母組合共有九種發音方式，這九種發音的代表單詞是：[①though雖然②thought思維、想法、思想、思潮③enough,rough足夠，粗糙的;使不平④thorough徹底的，完全的，十足的⑤cough咳嗽⑥through穿過，通過，從 …開始至終⑦ hiccough打嗝⑧plough耕作，皺眉⑨lough湖]如有一個句子：Though the rough cough and hiccough plough me through,I ought to cross the lough.在這個句子中同一個字母組合ough，有八種不同的發音。這八個音分別是分別是：①[o ]②[Λf]③[f]④[甂崀⑤[]⑥[u:]⑦[Λp]⑧[au]9[k]
