2. 關於“也許”,perhaps=maybe, may be
maybe adv. 常用於句首;may be意為“也許是”,是一個情態動詞“may + 動詞原形”的結構,may be 只是一個結構巧合。
e.g. Maybe he is a student.= He may be a student.
Maybe he knows about this.= He may know about this.
3. 關於alone和lonely:
lonely只作adj.,用於名詞前或系動詞後,意為:“主觀上孤獨的,偏僻的”。
alone 可作adj. 只用於系動詞後,意為“無感情色彩,只強調一個人的狀態單獨的”。
也可作adv., 與行為動語搭配使用,意為“單獨地”。
e.g. The old man lived in a lonely house alone, but he never feels lonely.
4. 關於hundred等詞的用法,<注意hundred的形式>:
a hundred students一百個學生, two hundred students兩百個學生;
two hundred of the students這些學生中的兩百個; hundreds of students成百上千的學生
5. 關於besides:
besides 除了…之外,相當於在原有的基礎上增加;e.g. Besides milk, we need vegetables.
except 除了…之外,相當於在範圍內將其排除;e.g. We all went to the park yesterday, except him.
beside 在…旁邊;He is standing beside me.
6. 關於such和so:
Such作形容詞,意思是“如此的”“這樣的”,修飾各種名詞。so修飾形容詞。
Ø Such常和as搭配,表示一種類別。如We enjoy such a voice as hers.我們喜歡象她那樣的嗓子。
Ø Such常和表示結果的that從句搭配,表示“如此….以至於…”如
It was such a hot day that we all had to stay at home.
Ø Such…that…和so…that…“如此…以至”,都可用來引出一個結果狀語從句。由於such是形容詞,所以that從句前有一個受such修飾的名詞;而so 是副詞,用以修飾形容詞或副詞,因此that從句前一般不出現名詞。如
They are such kind-hearted teachers that people in the village all respect them.
The exam was so difficult that many students failed to pass it.
a 如果名詞是可數名詞的單數形式,such和so的位置不同:
such+ a/an+形容詞+單數名詞 so+形容詞+a/an+單數名詞
b 如果名詞是不可數名詞或名詞複數,只可用such,不能用so.
such+形容詞+不可數名詞或複數名詞
c 如果被修飾的不可數名詞被much, little, 或複數名詞被many, few等表示量的形容詞修飾時,用so,不用such.
d 當little表示“年紀小的”時,可用such+little+名詞
