　　Scarborough Fair這首歌第一次為我們所知應該是作為美國電影《畢業生》***The Graduate***的插曲。這部電影是當時美國大學生很喜歡的電影，這首歌曲和那首The sound of silence***寂靜之聲***也都是頗受歡迎的。其實，西蒙和加芬克爾的唱片專輯“Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme”是在1966年底問世的。電影《畢業生》是1967年上映的，吸納了其中兩首作為插曲。

　　這Scarborough最早在大約一千年前由Viking***維京***人在英格蘭的西北部North Yorkshire 登陸後逐漸成為的一個重要的港口。中世紀時期，Scarborough是來自全英格蘭甚至還有歐洲的商人經常聚集的一個海邊重鎮。Scarborough Fair在歷史上是一個從8月15日開始延續45天的交易集市。在那個年代持續如此之長的集市是很少見的。後來這個集市逐漸冷清衰弱，現在Scarborough只是一個默默無聞的小鎮了。
