壘球是集體競賽專案，是在一塊呈直角扇形的場地上進行比賽的，亦是奧運會比賽專案。 該運動由棒球運動演變而來，19世紀80年代起源於美國芝加哥。1933年，正式命名為“壘球”（soft ball）。1996年，女子壘球被正式列為奧運會運動專案。
