地震震級

地震震級是透過儀器給出地震大小的一種量度，考慮到地震波在傳播過程中的衰減，震級的測定需要考慮地震深度和震中距離。測定地震是依靠儀器記錄的地震波。取不同的地震波震相可以求得不同的地震震級。通常所說的里氏震級是一種近震震級。中國現在使用的是統一震級Ms，最後的結果是取多臺的平均震級。 地震震級是衡量地震本身大小的尺度，由地震所釋放出來的能量大小來決定。釋放出的能量愈大，則震級愈大。地震釋放的能量大小，是透過地震儀記錄的震波最大振幅來確定的。由於儀器效能和中距離不同，記錄到的振幅也不同，所以必須要以標準地震儀和標準震中距的記錄為準。
