河馬

河馬（學名：hippopotamus），河馬科河馬屬的一種大型雜食性淡水物種。河馬列入《世界自然保護聯盟》瀕危物種紅色名錄（IUCN）易危物種。 河馬體型巨大，體長4米，肩高1.5米，體重約3噸，軀體粗圓，四肢短，腳有4趾，頭碩大，眼、耳較小，嘴特別大，尾較小，下犬齒巨大，長50~60釐米，重2.5千克，皮較厚，約40-50毫米，除吻部、尾、耳有稀疏的毛外，全身皮膚裸露，呈紫褐色。妊娠期約8個月，每胎1仔；哺乳期1年，4-5歲性成熟，壽命30-40年。分佈於非洲。
