精油是從植物的花、葉、莖、根或果實中，透過水蒸氣蒸餾法、擠壓法、冷浸法或溶劑提取法提煉的芳香物質。精油又分稀釋的複方精油和未經稀釋的單方精油（比如仙人掌種子油）。精油的揮發性強，一旦接觸空氣會很快揮發。因此，精油必須用可密封的深色瓶子儲存。
