接地（earthing）接地指電力系統和電氣裝置的中性點、電氣裝置的外露導電部分和裝置外導電部分經由導體與大地相連。可以分為工作接地、防雷接地和保護接地。 工作接地就是由電力系統執行需要而設定的（如中性點接地），因此在正常情況下就會有電流長期流過接地電極，但是隻是幾安培到幾十安培的不平衡電流。在系統發生接地故障時，會有上千安培的工作電流流過接地電極，然而該電流會被繼電保護裝置在0.05~0.1s內切除，即使是後備保護，動作一般也在1s以內。 防雷接地是為了消除過電壓危險影響而設的接地，如避雷針、避雷線和避雷器的接地。防雷接地只是在雷電衝擊的作用下才會有電流流過，流過防雷接地電極的雷電流幅值可達數十至上百千安培，但是持續時間很短。 保護接地是為了防止裝置因絕緣損壞帶電而危及人身安全所設的接地，如電力裝置的金屬外殼、鋼筋混凝土杆和金屬桿塔。保護接地只是在裝置絕緣損壞的情況下才會有電流流過，其值可以在較大範圍內變動。
