汞是化學元素，元素符號Hg，元素週期表第80位，在化學元素週期表中位於第6週期、第IIB族。 汞是銀白色閃亮的重質液體，化學性質穩定，不溶於酸也不溶於鹼，其常溫下即可蒸發，汞蒸氣和汞的化合物多有劇毒。大多數汞來自於辰砂礦。

水銀，中藥名。為液態金屬汞，並含有微量的銀，天然汞礦不甚多見，通常系用辰砂礦石加熱蒸餾而得。分佈於貴州、四川、湖南、廣西、雲南等地。具有消毒，瀉下，利尿，殺蟲，滅蝨之功效。常用於皮膚疥瘡，頑癬，頭蝨。
