　　：still, quiet, silent

　　***1*** still用作形容詞，意為“靜止的，不動的，平靜的”。

　　keep ***stay*** still 保持不動

　　lie ***stand*** still 躺著***站著***不動

　　a still lake / evening

　　平靜的湖/寂靜的夜晚

　　用作副詞，表示“還，仍舊”，可以修飾形容詞、副詞比較級。

　　be still busy 仍然很忙

　　win still greater success 取得更火成功

　　***2*** still 側重“一動不動”，quiet指“安靜”，無動作，無聲音，無騷亂，其反義詞是noisy ***吵鬧的、喧譁的***;

　　silent 指不出聲，不說話。

　　對比：sit still 坐著不動

　　Be quiet, and the class will begin.

　　請安靜，馬上就要開始上課了。

　　Hearing the answer, he was silent for a minute ormore.

　　聽了回答之後，他沉默了一兩分鐘。

　　：become, get, grow, turn

　　become, get, grow, turn, 這幾個詞都可以表示“變成”或“成為”的意思。

　　***1*** become 強調變化過程的完成，強調狀態的變化。

　　You'll become wiser as you grow older.

　　隨著年齡的增長，你會變得更睿智的。

　　***2*** get 強調造成事件的施動者的作用或變化的結果。

　　We had better get started at once.

　　我們最好馬上開始。

　　***3*** grow 表示漸漸成為新的狀態，或表示從某種狀態向其對立的狀態變化的自然現象，強調變化的過程。

　　The crowd grew more and more excited as they were waiting the time for the launch of the satellite.

　　隨著火箭發射時間的到來，等待的人群變得越來越興奮了。

　　***4*** turn 指轉變成為與原來完全不同的事物，強調變化的結果。turn後面接名詞時常不加冠詞，而become後接名詞時則加冠詞。

　　In autumn the leaves on the trees all turn yellow.秋天樹上的葉子都變黃了。

　　Five years later, he turned doctor.= Five years later, he became a doctor.

　　五年後他成了一名醫生。

　　：persuade, advise

　　兩個詞都有“勸”之意，persuade表示結果，advise只強調動作。

　　We advised ***or: tried to persuade*** him to stop talking,but hc refused.

　　我們勸***試圖勸服***他別談了但他不聽。

　　I persuade him to stop smoking. tie now looks better.

　　我勸服他戒了煙。現在他看上去更健康了。

　　[注意] persuade 表示“說服某人做/不做某事”除了persuade sb. to / not to do...結構，還有persuade sb. into doing sth. / out of doing sth. 如：

　　He persuaded me into leaving soon.

　　他勸服我馬上離開。
