　　There was an argument between an oak and a willow, upon the subject of strength, constancy, and patience, and which of the two should be loved by man. The oak criticized the willow that it was weak and wavering, and gave way to wind each time. The willow made no other reply, that the duanwenw next storm should draw the conclusion.

　　Some people always look at the negative side. Who is a pessimist?

　　There was a hunter who bought a bird dog, the only one of its kind in the world that could walk on water.

　　He couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw this miracle. At the same time, he was very pleased that he could show off his new acquisition to his friends.

　　He invited a friend to go duck hunting. After sometime, they shot a few ducks and the man ordered his dog to run and fetch the birds. All day long, the dog ran on water and kept fetching the birds. The owner was expecting a comment or a compliment about this amazing dog, but never got one. As they were returning home, he asked his friend if he had noticed anything unusual about his dog. The friend replied: ”Yes, in fact, I did notice something unusual. Your dog can’t swim.”

　　有些人總是從悲觀的角度看問題。然後誰才是悲觀者呢?

　　有個獵人買了一條世界上唯一能夠在水上獵鳥的狗。

　　當他看到這奇蹟時，他簡直無法相信自己的眼睛。同時，他也非常高興自己可以向朋友們炫耀這一新的收穫。

　　In every school there is a “top” crowd that sets the pace, while the others follow their lead. Let's say the top crowed decides that it is smart to wear bright red sweaters. Pretty soon everybody is wearing a bright red sweater.

　　每所學校中都有一群領頭學生引領潮流,其他人爭相效仿。比如說,這些領頭學生認為穿鮮紅色羊毛衫很時尚,那麼很快人人都會穿上鮮紅色羊毛衫。

　　There is something wrong with that, except the fact that on some people bright red sweater is extremely unbecoming. The situation can duanwenw even become dangerous, if the top crowd decides that it is smart to drink or to drive cars at seventy miles an hour. Then the people who follow the lead were endangering their lives. They are like the sheep being led to the butcher.

　　Now, changes are that you have come across situations like these more than once in your life; changes are that one time or another you probably did something you knew to be wrong. You may have excused yourself by saying, “Gee, the crowd does it.” Well, let the crowd do it, but don't do it yourself. Learn to say, “No!”

　　Develop your own standards and your own judgement. If you know the crowd is planning something you disagree to, have the courage to bow out mannerly, you'll have the satisfaction of standing on your own two feet.
