Yesterday was one of my most challenging days of backpacking ao far. First, a little girl tan up and pinched me! Then, not even five minutes later, some boys made a game out of throwing dirt at me.
I was lost and wishes to see a kind face. I spotted a restaurant and went in to rest my feet and fill my belly, but a toothless man who shouted"No tables!" stopped me at the door.
I peered past him to see a half empty restruant. With the little pride, I had left. I wanted back to the hotel. The following morning, I jumped on a ferry and left the city. During the journey I met a man from Denmark who was travelling with a Vietnamese family of twenty people.
After we exchange stories, he excused himself. Minutes later, he returned smiling and said he and his family would like to take me in for the night. I eargerly accepted and giggled thinking I only wished for one kind face, and now I have twenty-one!
Tomorrow is a special day. Each year on December24th, our family gathers together the unusedblankets and jackets we have in our house.
We then take the pile, put them into our stationwagon, and drive around the city giving them tostreet people. We also bake cookies and hand them out, too. Sometimes my dog, Danny, shares his doggy treats, and I pass them out to the dogs that live on the streets with theirowners.
Last year, we met a woman who lived on the corner of 6th and knight. When she saw the redribbon in my hair, she smiled. She said her favorite color was red. I remembered that in the carthere was a red blanket with pink flowers. I ran and got it for her. She told me she loved it.Sometimes, we see the same people year after year.
This year, I saved my allowance and bought the lady on 6th and Knight a red scarf. If I see hertomorrow, I will give it to her. If I don't see her, I guess I will just give it to someone else wholikes red.

Donald works in a bank and day after day he sees women come to his till and cash government issued assistance checks. Most of these women are single moms who receive money from the government to help raise their babies.
The problem is, once their child turns three years old, the parent no longer receives money and needs to find work. Most mothers have been out of work for so long, they don’t have the skills or confidence to find employment.
Donald came up with an idea. Right away, he put his plan in motion and organized a two-day workshop. At the workshop, he had women role models from the community come give speeches. There were workshops on how to find the right day care, how to write a resume and find information on jobs.
He had local businesses sponsor the women. They donated money needed to cover babysitting for the weekend and transportation. The women who attended gained skills, confidence and a support group that helped them make positive changes for themselves and their child.
