病毒

病毒（英文名：Biological virus），必須在活細胞內寄生並以複製方式增殖的非細胞型生物。 病毒是一種非細胞生命形態，它由一個核酸長鏈和蛋白質外殼構成，病毒沒有自己的代謝機構，沒有酶系統。個體微小，結構簡單，只含一種核酸（DNA或RNA），必須在活細胞內寄生。因此病毒離開了宿主細胞，就成了沒有任何生命活動、也不能獨立自我繁殖的化學物質。它的複製、轉錄、和轉譯的能力都是在宿主細胞中進行，當它進入宿主細胞後，它就可以利用細胞中的物質和能量完成生命活動，按照它自己的核酸所包含的遺傳資訊產生和它一樣的新一代病毒。 按照寄主型別，病毒可分為動物病毒、植物病毒和細菌病毒等。動物病毒主要侵染脊椎動物和節肢動物；這包括多種人類常見疾病的病原體。一部分主要侵染其他脊椎動物和節肢動物，借節肢動物來傳播的病毒也可在人體造成嚴重疾病如多種腦炎。植物病毒主要侵染有花植物，常給人類帶來經濟損失。細菌病毒又稱噬菌體，現已知寄生於細菌的病毒也可間接造成人類疾病，如白喉毒素蛋白實際是由在菌體寄生的病毒指導合成的。噬菌體還是分子生物學的良好實驗材料，許多分子生物學的重大發現都是得自噬菌體實驗。
