漢字（拼音：hàn zì，注音符號：ㄏㄢˋ ㄗˋ），又稱中文字、中國字、方塊字，屬於表意文字的詞素音節文字。漢字是漢語的書寫用文字 ，也被借用於書寫日語、朝鮮語、越南語等語言，是漢字文化圈廣泛使用的一種文字，也是現在世界上唯一仍被廣泛使用的高度發達的文字。 廣義的漢字指從甲骨文、大篆、金文、籀文、小篆，至隸書、草書、楷書（以及派生的行書）等的文字，狹義指以正楷作為標準寫法的漢字，也是今日普遍使用的現代漢字。漢字為上古時代的漢族先民所發明創制並作改進，現在確切歷史可追溯至約公元前1300年商朝的甲骨文、籀文、金文。再到秦朝的小篆，發展至漢朝隸變，至唐朝楷化為今日所用的手寫字型標準—正楷。 漢字在古代已發展至高度完備的水準，不單中國使用，在很長時期內還充當東亞地區唯一的國際交流文字，20世紀前都是日本、朝鮮半島、越南等國家官方的書面規範文字，東亞諸國都有一定程度地自行創制漢字。
