笛子，是古老的樂器，也是中國樂器中最具代表性最有民族特色的吹奏樂器。中國傳統音樂中常用的橫吹木管樂器之一，中國竹笛，一般分為南方的曲笛、北方的梆笛和介於兩者之間的中音笛。 笛子常在中國民間音樂、戲曲、中國民族樂團、西洋交響樂團和現代音樂中運用，是中國音樂的代表樂器之一。 在民族樂隊中，笛子是舉足輕重的吹管樂器，被當做民族吹管樂的代表。大部分笛子是竹製的，但也有石笛、玉笛及紅木做的笛子，古時還有骨笛。不過，製作笛子的最好原料仍是竹子，因為竹笛聲音效果較好，製作成本較低。
