聖誕節

基督教紀念耶穌誕生的重要節日。亦稱耶穌聖誕節、主降生節，天主教亦稱耶穌聖誕瞻禮。耶穌誕生的日期，《聖經》並無記載。公元336年羅馬教會開始在12月25日過此節。12月25日原是羅馬帝國規定的太陽神誕辰。有人認為選擇這天慶祝聖誕，是因為基督教徒認為耶穌就是正義、永恆的太陽。5世紀中葉以後，聖誕節作為重要節日，成了教會的傳統，並在東西派教會中逐漸傳開。因所用曆法不同等原因，各教派會舉行慶祝的具體日期和活動形式也有差別。聖誕節習俗傳播到亞洲主要是在十九世紀中葉，日本、韓國等都受到了聖誕文化的影響。現在西方在聖誕節常互贈禮物，舉行歡宴，並以聖誕老人、聖誕樹等增添節日氣氛，已成為普遍習俗。聖誕節也成為西方世界以及其他很多地區的公共假日。
