鉀（Potassium）是原子序數為19的金屬元素，元素符號為K，屬於鹼金屬，分子量為39.098，熔點為63.2℃，沸點為765.5℃，不溶於烴類，溶於液氨、乙二胺、苯胺等。其為銀白色蠟狀固體，質軟而輕，可用小刀切割，熔沸點低，密度比水小，化學性質極度活潑。它是熱和電的良導體，具有較好的導磁性。 鉀與水激烈反應放出氫氣，併產生大量的熱。大塊鉀投入水中能起火燃燒，甚至發生爆炸。在空氣中氧化極速，燃燒時呈紫色火焰。反應效能比鈉更強更激烈，與空氣接觸，迅速被氧化而失去光澤，生成超氧化物，空氣中混有有機物時可能會引起爆炸性反應，必須充分注意。制電子管時常用鉀來吸收真空管內剩餘的氧氣和水氣。 體內低鉀會使胃腸蠕動減慢、腸麻痺，加重厭食，造成營養攝入不足，從而出現倦怠症狀。
