長篇小說

長篇小說（英文：Novel），是內容龐大的小說。在17世紀，長篇小說與和歷險傳奇文學、短篇小說、中篇小說的定義很接近，現今“長篇小說”一詞已包含了它們的部分意思。長篇小說是小說的一種樣式。篇幅長，容量大，情節複雜，人物眾多，適於表現廣闊的社會生活和人物的成長曆程，並能反映某一時代的重大事件和歷史面貌。在篇章結構上，一般根據故事情節的發展，分成許多章節；篇幅特別長的，還可以分為若干卷或部、集等。如《戰爭與和平》、《紅樓夢》、《人間喜劇》等等。
