作（zuò或zuō），多音字，本義為開始治卜龜，最早見於甲骨文。該字出自典故《孟子·梁惠王上》：“仲尼曰：‘始作俑者，其無後乎！’為其象人而用之也。” 讀zuò時，同“做”，意思是從事，如工作；文藝方面的成品，如作品；從事某種活動，如作揖。 讀zuō時，意思是舊時手工業製造加工的場所，如作坊。
