象牙塔（Ivory tower），法語譯la tour d'ivoire，根據聖經《舊約雅歌》第7章第4節，睿智富有的以色列王所羅門曾作詩歌1005首，其中愛情之歌《雅歌》第五首歌中由來的。詩歌中描寫道，新郎是這樣讚美新娘的，“…Your neck is like an ivory tower. Your eyes are pools in Heshbon,by the gate of Bath-rabbim….”(……你的頸項如象牙塔；你的眼目像希實本·巴特那拉並門旁的水池；……)。很清楚這裡的“象牙塔”只是用來描述新娘美麗的頸項。
