眾生

一般而言，此詞係指具無明煩惱，流轉生死之迷界凡夫；然若就廣義而言，則亦含攝悟界的佛、菩薩等。音譯禪頭、社伽、薩埵、僕呼繕那；又稱有情、含識、含生、群萌、群類、稟識等。《雜阿含經》卷六雲（大正2·40a）︰‘佛告羅陀，於色染著纏綿，名曰眾生；於受、想、行、識染著纏綿，名曰眾生。’《摩訶止觀》卷五（上）雲（大正46·52c）︰‘攬五陰通稱眾生。眾生不同︰攬三途陰罪苦眾生、攬人天陰受樂眾生、攬無漏陰真聖眾生、攬慈悲陰大士眾生、攬常住陰尊極眾生。’又，《大智度論》卷二雲（大正25·72b）︰‘如諸法中涅盤無上，眾生中佛亦無上。’
