　　：陳年老酒

　　Once there lived a rich man who was justly proud of his cellar and the wine therein. And therewas one jug of ancient vintage kept for some occasion known only to himself.

　　從前，有個富翁，不無理由地以他的酒窖和窖藏美酒自豪。其中有一瓶遠年陳葡萄酒，是他珍藏著留作盛會用的，究竟是什麼盛會，可只有他自己知道。

　　The governor of the state visited him, and he bethought him and said, "That jug shall not beopened for a mere governor."

　　地方官來拜訪他，他心中尋思道："不過是地方官罷了，不必為他開這瓶酒。"

　　And a bishop of the diocese visited him, but he said to himself, "Nay, I will not open that jug.He would not know its value, nor would its aroma reach his nostrils."

　　教區的主教來拜訪他，可他跟自己說道："不，我不願為他開這瓶酒。他不會懂得這酒的價值，這酒的香味地也聞不出來。"

　　The prince of the realm came and supped with him. But he thought, "It is too royal a wine for amere princeling."

　　王國的王子來臨，和他一同進餐。但是他想："他不過是個小小的王子，不配喝那麼高貴的美酒。"

　　And even on the day when his own nephew was married, he said to himself, "No, not to theseguests shall that jug be brought forth."

　　甚至在他自己的侄兒結婚的時候，他也對自己說道："不，那瓶酒可不拿出來給那些客人們喝。"

　　And the years passed by, and he died, an old man, and he was buried like unto every seed andacorn.

　　歲月流逝，這老頭兒終於死了，埋了，像種子和橡實一樣。

　　And upon the day that he was buried the ancient jug was brought out together with other jugsof wine, and it was shared by the peasants of the neighbourhood. And none knew its great age.

　　他下葬的那天，那瓶遠年陳葡萄酒和其它的酒都拿出來了，被農民和鄰居們分著喝掉了。沒有一個人辨別出這瓶酒是遠年陳酒。

　　To them, all that is poured into a cup is only wine

　　對他們說來，凡是倒進酒杯裡的，都不過是酒罷了。

　　An artist who had painted many pictures of great beauty found that he had not yet painted theone "real " picture.

　　一位畫過許多傑出精美畫作的藝術家，發現自己甚至連幅“真的”畫都沒有畫出來。

　　In his search along a dusty road, he met an aged priest who asked him where he was going .

　　他沿著一條佈滿塵土的路一路追尋，他遇到一位年老的牧師，牧師問他要去哪裡。

　　"I do not know, " said the artist, "I want to paint the most beautiful thing in the world . Perhapsyou can direct me to it. "

　　藝術家回答：“我不知道，我想畫世界上最美好的東西。也許，你能給我指引。”

　　"How simple, " replied the priest, "in any church or creed, you will find it——"faith" is the mostbeautiful thing in the world. "

　　牧師說，“很簡單，在任何教堂或者信條中，你會發現——世界上最美好的東西是“信仰”。

　　The artist traveled on . Later , he met a young bride who told him that the most beautifu thingin the world is :"love". "love" makes the world go round.

　　藝術家繼續前行。後來，他遇到一個年輕的新娘，她告訴他，“愛”是世界上最美好的東西。

　　I builds poverty into riches. sweetens tears and makes much of little . Without love there is nobeauty.

　　“愛”使世界運轉，讓貧窮變得富有，淚水變成甜蜜，渺小變成偉大。沒有愛，也就沒有美。

　　Still the artist continued his search and met a weary soldier.

　　藝術家繼續他的追尋，他又遇到一個疲憊不堪的士兵。

　　The artist asked him the same question and the soldier answered, "Peace" is the most beautifulthing in the world.

　　藝術家問了他同樣的問題，士兵說：“世界上最美好的東西是‘和平’。”

　　War is ugly and wherever you find peace you’ll find beauty, faith and love.

　　“戰爭醜惡無比，你在哪裡能找到和平，也就找到了美、信仰和愛。”

　　"How can I paint them- Faith, Love and Peace?" thought the artist.

　　“信仰、愛與和平——我怎樣才能把它們畫出來呢?”藝術家想。

　　As he resumed his walk, his mind wondered on the “real ”picture he hoped to paint.He wassurprised that without thinking where he was going,he had reached his familiar surrounding.

　　當他重新開始旅途時，腦子裡想著自己希望畫出來的“真實”之作。他驚訝地發現自己想都沒想居然又走回熟悉的環境。

　　As he entered the doorway,light glistened in his eyes and he realized thet his search was over.

　　他走進房門，眼睛裡發出一絲光芒，他知道自己的追尋結束了。

　　In the faces of his wife and children,he saw love and Faith."Not a minute passed by thet ourchildren and l hod not thought of you.

　　在妻子和孩子們的臉上，他看到了“愛”和“信仰”。“我和孩子們時刻都在想你，為你的平安歸來而祈禱。”

　　We prayed that you would return to us safely,"his wife said as they embraced him.He sat on hispavorite old chair and hia heart was at peace.

　　他們相擁時，妻子這樣說道，他坐在最喜歡的椅子上，內心一片安寧。

　　The artist painted the most beautiful thing in the wold and called it"HOME".

　　藝術家畫出了世界上最美好的東西，它就是“家”。
