  一

  Todd: OK, Hello!

  Nanju: Hello!

  Todd: Hi, what's your name?

Nanju: Yeah, my name is Nanju.

Nanju.

Todd: Nanju. Nanju, how do you spell you name?

  Nanju. Nanju,

Nanju: Yeah, my name is like N-A-N-J-U.

  恩,N-A-N-J-U.

Todd: Oh, OK. That's a nice name. Nanju. And where are you from?

  Nanju: I'm from Madras.

  Todd: Madras!

  Nanju: It's in India.

Todd: Madras. What part of India?

Nanju: It's in the South India.

  Todd: South India.

  Nanju: South India.

Todd: And how long have you been in Japan?

Nanju: The past four months I am here and working in somewhere, working.

Todd: OK, and what do you do in Japan?

Nanju: It's normal, a software engineer.

Todd: Software engineer. Oh, you can help me with my computer.

Nanju: No, nothing. Just I know how to program and that's it.

Todd: Were you always good at computers when you were young?

Nanju: Yeah, I might be, from the 12th standard. like 18th years. From 18 years I am workingwith the computer.

Todd: Now, Christian, you're English is amazing.Perfect actually.

  Christian,

  Christian: Thank you.

Todd: And many people from Norway have excellent English. What is the secret about Norway?

Christian: I don't know. I actually heard that before that I meet a lot of people and theysay,"Oh, you're from Norway.

Norwegian people speak such good English. Why is that?"

Personally I think it's because we get a lot of exposure to English, through TV, music, media, everything, and we don't dub movies and TV programs like they do in many other countries.

We get subtitles. And the same with music. English music is very, very popular.

Probably more popular that Norwegian music, and I guess as well the education systemprovides us with really good, you know, teaching so, I mean all those combined together, youknow, creates, how to say.

  Todd: Super speakers!

Christian: I don't know super speakers. It's a good combination, I guess in term of learningthe language, so, you know, and a lot of Norwegians travel as well and they have time topractice as well, which is important if you want to speak English well.

Christian: That is probably more difficult that English, I'd say, but it's interesting I have aprivate Japanese student at the moment and he went to Norway on exchange from hisuniversity here in Japan

and he didn't speak a word of Norwegian before he went but he spent the year there, and henow can have a decent conversation with me in Norwegian.

That's three years ago since he went there, but still he speaks pretty well.

Todd: Alexandra, you worked at an airport before. You said you worked in Aviation.

Alexandra: Yes, my previous job was write contracts for an aviation company and we boughtand sold airplanes and aircraft engines, so we did a lot of marketing and leasing and speakingto people from different countries, and airlines wanting to buy equipment, so a lot ofnegotiations.

Todd: Can you explain what leasing is?

Alexandra: Leasing is when our company owns a piece of equipment, either an airplane or anengine and a customer has a need, for example, if their airplane has to do some maintenance, and they need a replacement, then we will let them use our airplane for a certain amount ofmonths, like you rent a car, same thing, same idea.

Todd: Oh, wow. And you lease not only the plane but engines as well?

Alexandra: Sometimes you have an airplane that's delayed at the airport because of somereason and they need to swap an engine out, or whatever.

Todd: Right before the plane takes off, they sometimes switch engines?

Alexandra: They'll take the passengers off and put them on another plane cause it takes a lotlonger than the 10 or 15 minute turnaround, but, you will have, it's more an emergency type ofsituation, so they'll take the engine off, and it might be and overnight deal so we go ahead andfurnish a replacement engine until they can move that plane back to where it belongs or havethe engine repaired.

Todd: So can you lease a pilot?

Alexandra: You can, yes, you can lease a crew. Yes! It's called a wet lease, and we used to dodry leases meaning we only provided the equipment but a wet lease includes a full crew that willfly the airplane, flight attendants, etc.
