湖盆及其承納的水體。湖盆是地表相對封閉可蓄水的天然窪池。湖泊按成因可分為構造湖、火山口湖、冰川湖、堰塞湖、喀斯特湖、河成湖、風成湖、海成湖和人工湖（水庫）等。按洩水情況可分為外流湖（吞吐湖）和內陸湖；按湖水含鹽度可分為淡水湖（含鹽度小於1g/L）、鹹水湖（含鹽度為1-35g/L）和鹽湖（含鹽度大於35g/L）。湖水的來源是降水、地面徑流、地下水，有的則來自冰雪融水。湖水的消耗主要是蒸發、滲漏、排洩和開發利用。
