指探賞險境。即意味著到無人或很少有人去過的地方考察。 根據最新版本的《現代漢語詞典》，“探險” 的定義為：到從來沒有人去過或很少有人去過的艱險地方去考察、尋究自然界情況的活動。從其行為定性而言，帶有對未知危險程度和風險發生機率的自然環境和現象進行主動尋究、考察的特徵，是明知有危險卻主動去探究的自我冒險行為。但是對於不同的人來說，發自內心的無與倫比的痛快才是探險的真正意義所在吧！沒有嘗試過探險，誰又能對探險的意義妄自菲薄呢？沒有感受過那痛快淋漓的滋味，誰又能信口雌黃，斷定那種痛快根本算不了什麼呢？ 探險，意為從事沒有多少人嘗試過的活動（任何新的探索總存在一定的危險性）。不管是出於個人的內在追求，還是出於工作的需要，或者科考的目的，這樣一種行為，本身就具有不同尋常的意義。這是對人類探求未知世界的原始衝動的繼承與發揚，也是人類文明更加發達的內在動力。
