打火石，是一種人造合金，含有兩種特別的金屬鈰(Ce)與鑭(La)。加熱打火石稍加撞擊會爆炸，從獨居石（磷鈰鑭礦）提煉釷的時候，副產品中可以得到鈰和鑭。這兩種金屬在空氣裡都容易氧化，所以平時要浸在 煤油（俗稱的臭油）裡儲存。
