　　"固執"

　　As a real-estate broker, I once listed a house that had several rooms decorated in hot pink. I advised the seller to repaint，and was thrilled when he called to say he had done so. "You were right,"he said. "It looks much better now."

　　我是個房地產商。一次，有所待出售的房子,裡邊的牆被噴成了亮粉色。我向賣主建議把房子重噴一下。沒想到他很快給我回了電話說他已經噴完了，並說:“你說得對，現在房子看上去好多了。”

　　Several days later I showed the house to prospective buyers. We found the interior all freshly painted—in the same shade of hot pink.

　　客人

　　We had invited our friends Bob and Sheila to a special dinner. While my wife，Lee，prepared the meal，I rushed out to buy just the right wine.

　　Everything seemed perfect as we sat down at the dinner table，until I noticed that the ice bucket held an inferior wine.“Honey，“I said，”please bring out the bottle I purchased tonight. Bob and Sheila deserve better than this.“

　　The swimsuit issue of a magazine that displayed a model wearing a skimpy bikini on its cover was occupying the attension of a wide-eyed man. Disturbed,his wife said，"That's shameful!If I looked like that I wouldn't leave my house!”

　　有個男人出神地盯著一本雜誌的封面。那上面是一位穿著緊身比基尼泳裝的女郎。他的妻子很生氣，說:“真不像話，如果我穿的像她一樣，我絕不出家門。”

　　"To tell you the truth," the husband replied，"if you looked like that neither would I."

　　新朋友

　　When my wife，Diana, and I met a new couple at church one Sunday, we stopped to introduce ourselves and to exchange pleasantries. We described the friendly neighborhood we lived in，and listened sympathetically as they lamented that theirs was just the opposite.

　　一個星期天，我和妻子戴安娜去教堂時，碰到了一對新婚的夫婦。於是，我們停下車，向他們做了自我介紹，我們之間還表達了相互認識的喜悅之情。我們的話題開始談到了鄰居，我們說我們的鄧居如何如何的好。當他們說到他們的鄰居恰恰相反時，我們表示了對他們的同情。

　　Saying our good-byes, we got in our cars and drove home. As we approached our house，we were horrified to see that our new-found friends were pulling into the driveway next to ours.

　　後來，我們向他們道了別，開車回到了家。當我們把車子開到家門口時，我們驚奇地發現我們的新結識的那對新婚夫婦把車停在了隔璧的停車道上。
